Governor vetoes improvement in civil rights restoration notification
Wednesday, 20 May 2009
Governor Pawlenty has vetoed a bill that would give clear notification to felon offenders when their right to vote has been eliminated and when it has been reinstated.  Current notification mechanism do not make this clear, resulting in confusion among ex-felons as to if they are eligible to vote once again. The governor vetoed the bill in the name of reducing state mandates; the bill passed with overwhelming majority in the House (118-9) and court and corrections officials have said the bill would not be burdensome to their departments.
